Dharamshala Peace Marathon 2009


Day 1: 9th April: Arrive Delhi
Assistance and transfer to hotel (day room), wash/change, rest and transfer to the railway station for overnight train to Patankot Overnight in sleeper train. Lunch in hotel, dinner in local resturent.

Day 2: 10th April: Arrive Patankot:
Arrive Phatankot (early morning) and transfer to Dharamsala , seat of Tibetan excile, a 3hrous journey will take us through the Tea gardens, mountain villages, with the distance views of the Himalaya. Arrive in hotel in time for Lunch, after Lunch free to relax or visit the colourful Tibetan bazaar and the local monastery. Breakfast enroute, Lunch and dinner in hotel.

Day 3: 11th April: Dharamsala:
A day at Leisure, walking tour to the Monastery of H.H. Dalai Lama and The local Tibetan bazaar.

OPTIONAL visit to The Norbulingka Institute, functioning under the Chairmanship of his Holiness the Dalai Lama, it is committed to the preservation of Tibetan culture, The Institute is situated in the valley below Dharamsala, built according to traditional Tibetan style, following a ground plan based on the proportions of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattava of compassion. Set amidst beautiful gardens, surrounded by the green fields of the Kangra Valley, it stands against a backdrop of the towering Dhauladhar mountains of the outer Himalayan range.
Breakfast/ dinner and Overnight in the hotel.

Day 4: 12th April: RUN THE PEACE TIBETAN MARATHON:
The starting point of the Run is from the Monastery of His Holiness (Upper Dharamsala/ altitude 1770mts), The Run will be blessed and flagged off by the head Monk of the monastery the marathon passes through the bazaar and then passes through the St.John’s Church in wilderness, with the Himalayan backdrop we run through the beautiful Kangra Tea gardens and local villages, The road is fantastic and almost all the run is on the secondary road, and most of the run is down hill, with only about 5kms ascent before the Finishing line at the Stunning Kangra Fort (660mts), the Fort commands fine view of the valley and the surrounding Himalayan range.

The race will flag off at around 630AM and we will have 04 water stations with Toilet facilities and complete medical backup.

After celebration and drinks, we drive about 45kms/ 2hrs to Paragpur and stay in Delightful heritage hotel- The Judges Court; we will be looked after the charming family. And in the evening we will have price distribution/ drinks and gala dinner in beautiful gardens with distance views of the Himalaya.

For those doing Ultra Marathon (55 Kms) will go further and Finish at Rani Tal ( Near Toy Train Railway station), the run will pass through the dense mixed forest, small towns and villages, after celebration the group will be transfer by coach/jeeps to Join the marathon group at the Judges Court.

Day 5: 13th April: Paragpur- New Delhi ( fast train).
After breakfast we take a 3hours transfer to Jalandhar railway station for Shatabdi Express train to Delhi. Arrive Delhi and transfer to the hotel for the night. Afternoon free ot take one of our Optional Guided Sightseeing tour of Delhi. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day 6: 14th April
Transfer to the airport for your return flight ( Rooms reserved until 1200hrs). Or take one of our exciting extension holidays to Taj Mahal, Jaipur, Goa, Kerala or a full tour of Rajasthan, for extension tour details please contact amresh@dharamsal-peace-marathon.com.
